About Us

“Seeking godly rulers in the judicial, legislative, and administrative branches”

Welcome to our web page. We’ll try to keep you informed about political news, particularly as it relates to home schools and private schools in Oregon. God has seen fit to use us for over a decade to help preserve and expand the liberty parents in Oregon have to educate their children without state interference.

If you are interested more particularly in finding a home school support group, getting curriculum, or other general home school information, please feel encouraged to call OCEAN (Oregon Christian Education Association Network). They have a voice mail system, and includes information on local home school support groups, et cetera. Their number is (503)288-1285. OCEAN’s mailing address is 2515 NE 37th Avenue, Portland, OR 97212.

Please feel free to browse around our web page. Before you do, however, let me tell you why we chose our name. For many years the National Education Association, NEA, has been a strong political force. It has helped move our country away from its Christian heritage and away from the freedoms that accompany Biblical faith. It claims to focus on education. But it has supported many left-wing causes such as abortion and sodomy (homosexuality). The NEA is a teachers union, and is publicly and vocally opposed to home schools and private schools that do not use state-certified teachers.

The Parents Education Association, PEA, was named to suggest our desire to be a counterweight to the NEA. Our name also points to our desire to unite parents to fight politically for parental freedom in education. Our vision for America is a return to the faith of our fathers, and the resultant freedom, liberty and order that accompany a culture built on God’s Word. What was once an essentially Christian culture in America has, for all intents and purposes, been destroyed. Yes, there is much darkness. But we are called to be light. It is time we apply the truth of Luke 11:33, removing the bushel-baskets and letting our light shine in this world.

I have five children, and my hope and prayer for each of them is that they might hold “forth the word of life.” My goal is that they may “shine as lights” in the “midst of a crooked and perverse nation,” (Phil. 2:15,16). My purpose is that they may be part of the seeds of renewal that God is sowing in America. With God’s blessing, they will be part of a new generation that will be more faithful than their fathers (see Psalm 78:6-8). May they then grow a new Christian culture that is more self-consciously Biblical and more mature than America has ever seen. To that end, we dedicate our labors.

In the service of the King of Kings,

Dennis Tuuri

1997 We Published our 2nd Biblical Ballot Measures Voters Guide.

1996 We published our 1st Biblical Ballot Measures Voters Guide.

1994 We successfully targeted a dozen races, and helped elect pro-family candidates to State office. In spite of all predictions to the contrary, we again increased the conservative hold on the Oregon House and for the first time in decades, helped the Republican party gain control of the Senate.

1993 We were asked by a group of legislators to help them introduce and lobby for the passage of an abstinence education bill, which passed, in spite of strong opposition from liberals all the way from the ACLU to the lesbians. We also did preliminary work setting the stage for planned legislative efforts in 1995 to make sure Oregon’s version of OBE won’t negatively impact home or private schools.

1992 We successfully were at work again helping elect pro-family candidates to State office. We strengthened the conservative hold on the Oregon House and for the first time in decades, moved the Senate within striking distance of pro-freedom forces as well.

1991 Working through the Legislature that we had helped to elect in 1984, 1986, 1988, and 1990, we turned up the heat on Governor Roberts, got her to see the light, and she pressured the Board to see things our way. After the smoke had cleared, we not only had fought off the State Board’s attacks, we actually pressured the Board into giving us even more freedom!! Praise be to God!

1990 The Oregon State Board of Education moved to try to severely restrict educational freedom. In response, we led a successful attempt to raise a public outcry and then elected pro-home school candidates who would help us fight the Board in the Legislature. We also proved a major factor in the successful effort to gain Republican control of the House for the first time in years.

1989 We successfully and easily defeated an attempt on the part of the OSBA (Oregon School Board Association) to force both private and home schoolers to teach ELS (Essential Learning Skills), which was the precursor to OBE (Outcome Based Education) in Oregon.

1988 We successfully helped to elect a number of pro-family candidates, significantly adding to the growing number of pro-family Oregon legislators.

1987 We successfully turned back an attempt on the part of COSA (Confederation of Oregon School Administrators) to repeal our 1985 Bill.

1986 We successfully endorsed and helped in the election of a number of pro-family and pro-home school legislators.

1985 We successfully introduced and lobbied for the passage of what became known as the 1985 Home School Freedom Bill. Overnight, Oregon’s home school law moved from one of worst to one of the best in the country.

1984 We targeted and successfully defeated the head of the House Education Committee, known to be unfavorable to home school freedom.

1983 In response to an intolerable lack of Christian freedom to home school in Oregon, the Parents Education Association was started. It was a parents alternative to the NEA, the teachers union known as the National Education Association, which has wreaked such havoc in our nation.
