In Judges 1 and 2, we read that after Joshua's death there "arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel" God left enemies in the land that they "may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein," "to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of the LORD." How is it with you, Christian? Do you understand the preeminence of God's People? Do you realize that the heathen surround us as a test of our faithfulness to Jesus? Are you committed to walking in His ways, according to His Word, which is always a Law-word and a Grace-word in our Saviour? When you vote, will it be an exercise in doing what is right in your own eyes, as it was for those Israelites in the time of Judges, who failed to acknowledge God as their King in all matters, including the political? Or are you a faithful servant of our Lord, using every opportunity, including the polling place, to witness for righteousness, and work for the peace (God's order) where God has planted you? I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
